Hello,

I’m Torrey Lynn Sullivan, an indie children’s author living in Southern Utah with my husband,
our four children and two small furry dog friends.

This is my cozy corner of the universe
where my imagination is set free
to create and share.

I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I have enjoyed creating them. Many of these stories have occupied
my heart and mind for decades, asking me to
release them into the world. With a little nudge from those closest to me and a desperate need to create.
I thought I’d give it a go, and self-published my first book on September 25, 2025.

I am so happy you are here!
I hope my courage to share my stories
encourages you to follow your heart, too.

Author and creator of Star Lake Stories, head shot picture, relating to the about page.

Creativity

I believe creativity belongs to everyone. Anyone can be creative;

it's just a matter of listening for when it calls. It whispers in the wind,

winks in the starlight, and drifts to us in quiet moments.

When it comes, you have to catch it before

it moves on to someone else. â€‹

Many of my stories have come to me this way. It finds me in

playful moments with my kids, or the simplest parts of my day.

When I feel a story stirring, I cast my net to capture its magic

before it slips away. The more I listen, the easier it is to hear

the whispering magic that is waiting to be told.

Storytellers Who Inspired Me

Many storytellers have inspired me, but five in particular have truly captured my heart and soul.

J. R. R. Tolkien, for his incredible world-building and philosophy; Diana Wynne Jones, for creating my favorite story, her world-building, creativity, magic, and wit; Ruth Stone, for her beautiful poetry and her perspective on creativity; A. A. Milne, for his simple, heartfelt poetry and for writing the very first story I fell in love with, “Winnie-the-Pooh,” and Hayao Miyazaki, for the way his stories hold imagination, nature, and take you on a slow journey into worlds that feel both magical and deeply human.

What Inspires Me

Growing up in Utah, I’ve been surrounded by beautiful nature and mountains waiting to be explored.

At sunrise and sunset, the distant mountains sometimes look like watercolor paintings brushed across the sky. Traveling and learning about different cultures has also given me tremendous inspiration for stories.

Traveling to Ireland has given me a lot of inspiration so far.

They do say, It is the land of storytelling!

Music has also been a powerful source of inspiration for me. There are moments when listening to music feels like a cinematic experience, and my imagination begins to play along with the melodies.

Art can have the same effect. When I look at concept art or illustrations, I sometimes find the spark of a new story hidden within the colors, shapes, and worlds created by other artists.

Below, you can follow my Star Lake Stories playlist on Spotify to see the kind of music that inspires me, along with my Pinterest board, Inspired by Art, to fully experience what gets my imagination going. Try it for yourself! After doing so, go for a walk outside and see what calls to you.

From My Heart to Yours

I've always escaped the world around me by creating new ones with my imagination. In those quiet escapes, stories have found me. Some ment just for me, others longing to be shared.

For a long time, I kept them to myself.

Then one day, I opened up to a friend.

Years later, this friend told me she still thought about the stories I shared with her on that day.

That was my sign, the nudge I needed to bring these stories out into the world.

Now, through Star Lake Stories, I share the worlds that once kept me company, in hopes they'll spark wonder, warmth, and magic for others too.

Many of my stories are inspired by motherhood and childhood imagination, quiet moments in the beautiful Southern Utah nature, and my open mind that allows me to see meaning and stories in everyday moments.

I have created this space so I can have full control and access to my creativity. From writing and designing,

to self-publishing, marketing, and distributing;

I am doing it all!

I want to pursue my passion and unleash my creativity!

I am ready to free my creative self that I have chronically

shielded from critique.

Welcome to my cozy corner of the universe. I am excited to share my creative space with you!
